About Us

Welcome Parents & Students to the Home of the Loveland High School Orchestra Program!

Our program consists to two curricular orchestras, the first of which is Concert Orchestra. This ensemble is designed for students coming directly out of their Middle School Orchestra experiences at Lucile Erwin Middle School or Bill Reed Middle School, as well as Sophomore and Junior level leaders. Upon successful completion of the Concert Orchestra curriculum, students may audition for The LHS Chamber Orchestra, which is geared toward advanced musicians looking to pursue music at the college level or at a high level avocationally.

The second ensemble, The LHS Chamber Orchestra, is committed to the highest level of musical mastery, consistently earning Superior ratings at both CHSAA and ASTA Festivals. The group ranges in size from a small chamber group up to a full symphony during 2nd and 4th quarters. The group has performed Choral Masterworks, such as the Schubert Mass in G Major, professional-level string orchestra rep such as The Holberg Suite, Bloch Concerto for Strings and Piano, Rumanian Folk Dances, The Nielsen Little Suite for Strings, as well as works from the opera world including The Overture to the Magic Flute, and finally full symphonic works such as The Unfinished Symphony.

Outside of the traditional school day, students in Chamber Orchestra have the opportunities to play in the pit for our music theatre productions such as Sweeney Todd, Shrek, Les Misérables, Beauty and the Beast, The Addams Family, or with the full symphony. These ensembles require time after school, but are priceless in the wholistic development of the young student / musician.

Since 2013, the programs between Lucile Erwin and Bill Reed Middle Schools have grown immensely, leading to the development of a solid program from top to bottom at LHS. What started with a little over 20 students has now grown to over 100 between the two orchestras at LHS. This program will continue to grow over the years with your support and commitment to orchestra. I look forward to working with you over the years!
